History
Garling Construction was started in 1971 as a father-and-son operation. Orville and Dennis Garling performed residential and retail construction until 1980. The company incorporated in 1978 and then began statewide light commercial work in 1980. Two other family members, Barbara Garling and Dave Petersen, joined the team to make the business stronger. In the next 15 years Garling Construction, Inc. grew with the addition of a second office in Cedar Rapids in 1994.
Doug DeMeulenaere joined the company in 1999 and the business continued to expand in the Belle Plaine area as well as Cedar Rapids. Doug was promoted to Vice President in 2005. Amy DeMeulenaere joined Garling Construction in 2006 as the assistant Controller. Upon Dennis and Barbara’s retirement in 2009, the company was purchased by Doug and Amy DeMeulenaere. Doug acquired the role of CEO and Amy was promoted to Controller. Troy Pins has acquired the role of President of the corporation and manager of the Cedar Rapids office. Rick Maas has acquired the role of Vice President.
Garling Construction has strong construction ties here in Iowa along with close relationships with sub contractors and suppliers throughout the area. The company has a 25+ year strong alliance with CECO pre engineered metal buildings and has been an active member of Associated Builders and Contractors of Iowa for over 25 years.
The company is presently manned with 45 full-time employees, including 20 licensed carpenters, 7 project managers, and 10 superintendents. Garling Construction, Inc. continues to grow with current volume and bonding capabilities of $50 million. Our employee residency is an average of 18 years.
